Housing

We provide advice about the accommodation options through our database that contains different rent ads.

The options (apartment rent, bedroom rent, student rooming houses or family houses) offer different prices depending on the conditions (further or nearer the city, comfort, shared or private rooms; meal programs, etc.)

Furnished

The family houses are usually cheaper. Currently the price for the accommodation is about U$S 500 per month including breakfast. There is the option of taking the accommodation without the meal, at an average price of between U$S 300 and U$S 400 per month.

In case of choosing a private apartment, you should think about a monthly rent of U$S 500 to U$S 1000 (expenses included) for apartments with one to three bedrooms in a centrally located area. The food expenses can be calculated between U$S 150 and U$S 250 per month.

Things to keep in mind when renting an apartment:

  • The apartment owners usually require a “property guarantee” from the city where the apartment is located. This is used as a sort of “Insurance” in case of unpaid rent or expenses, in which case the warrant will have to respond with his property. This is a hard requirement to meet for a traveler but fortunately there are places where instead of requiring a guarantee they often request a larger deposit (to cover for eventual damages to the property or unpaid bills) or some front rent payments.
  • When considering the apartment rents keep in mind there are some “common expenses” to all the apartments in the building. These can either be included in the rent package or not.
  • Pay special attention when signing the contract, if your Spanish is poor you should ask somebody you trust to help you. IUEAN will help you to accomplish this stem without troubles.
  • You can also visit a Real Estate Office to have them find you an apartment. Keep in mind that you will have to pay for this service, approximately the equivalent to two-month rent, but it may simplify your search.
  • In the local paper classifieds section on Saturdays and Sundays you will find a wide offer of properties for rent. In this section, the apartments are listed by neighborhood and amount of rooms.
  • Location: keep in mind the public transportation in the area, if there are bus stops and/or subway stations nearby. If there are laundry and convenient stores within walking distance.
